Role Purpose
The Broiler Department Manager is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial performance of all broiler farming operations. The role provides leadership and oversight to farm managers to ensure optimal bird performance, strong animal welfare standards, strict biosecurity compliance, and effective cost control. The position is accountable for delivering production targets while driving continuous improvement across all broiler farming operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Oversight
Lead and manage operations across multiple broiler farms. Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve production targets and improve productivity and profitability. Monitor and manage performance indicators including growth rates, mortality, and feed conversion efficiency.
Performance and Productivity Management
Continuously monitor KPIs across all farms and ensure each operation adheres to company standards. Drive implementation of best practices, innovation, and performance improvement initiatives.
Biosecurity, Welfare and Compliance
Ensure strict compliance with biosecurity protocols, vaccination programs, welfare standards, and environmental regulations. Work closely with technical and quality teams to maintain audit readiness and promptly address non-compliance.
People and Department Management
Lead, mentor, and develop farm managers and operational teams. Set clear objectives, support succession planning, and build leadership capability. Foster collaboration between farming teams and other departments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with hatchery, planning, and processing teams to ensure smooth production flow from placement to final output. Maintain alignment across operational functions to support efficiency and quality outcomes.
Reporting and Administration
Provide accurate operational reporting including production performance, incidents, and project updates. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning for the broiler division.
Working Relationships
Internal
Collaborates with department managers, technical teams, planning, logistics, finance, HR, and senior farming leadership to ensure integrated operations.
External
Engages with livestock consultants, suppliers, contractors, and service providers to support operational efficiency and compliance.
Role Requirements
Qualifications
Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum 10 years’ experience in broiler management within complex or large-scale farming environments. Experience in vertically integrated poultry operations is advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong understanding of biosecurity, animal welfare, workplace safety, and environmental compliance requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage large, dispersed teams and drive measurable performance improvements. Familiarity with livestock performance systems, traceability platforms, and modern farm automation technologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
