Sushi Chef

Responsibilities

• Creating & preparing a rich sushi menu with various main ingredients
• Manage and lead the kitchen staff in head chef’s absence
• Coordinate with our wait staff to ensure proper cooking, considering special requests and food allergies
• Provides guidance & training to junior kitchen staff members
• Supervises all food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and restaurant standards
• Oversee and organizes kitchen stock and ingredients, including proper dating and quality assurance
• Improve waste reduction and manage budgetary concerns
• Monitor and maintain hygiene and health and safety principles

• Matric
• Culinary Diploma / Sushi Qualifications
• Preferably 2+ years previous experience in a Sushi Chef role.
• Good knowledge of various sushi types and sushi-rolling techniques
• Ability to work both fast and accurately
• Leadership and management skills
• Able to work in a team
• Basic computer skills (word, excel, outlook)
• Exceptional customer-service skills
• Excellent written & oral communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Availability to work within opening hours (e.g. evenings, public holidays, weekends)
• Ability to work under pressure
