Overall, Job Purpose :
Undertake targeted research in a wide variety of geoscientific fields including project implementation under guidance of more senior scientific staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Research and Development
  • Conducts targeted geoscience research under guidance which includes data collection, basic analyses and interpretation
  • Resolves focused problems in a variety of geoscientific fields in line (in part) with SOP/research methodology under guidance or supervision.
Project Implementation/ Project Management
  • Participates in statutory and/or commercial projects under supervision
  • Write scientific reports under guidance.
  • Geoscience data collection and capturing, map compilation and geoscience data collation under the instruction and guidance.
  • Maintaining field equipment.
Stakeholder Relations and Reporting
  • Gives formal scientific or technical presentations of papers or reports, internally to other staff members and externally with guidance at conferences or symposia (typically once a year).
  • Publishes research findings internally and externally based on the nature of the project cycle.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensures that work is conducted within the required ISO standards.
Learning and Development
  • Undertake specific and requisite self-improvement learning/conferences and development through workshops/training courses.
  • Undertakes varied geoscientific tasks as required and stipulated within the Council for Geoscience mandate.
KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Ability to conduct geo-scientific investigations and research with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to present geo-scientific investigations in a written report.
  • Ability to present scientific papers to members of staff or externally.
  • Ability to relate to members of a team and work within a team setting.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSc Hons in Geology or any other relevant earth science qualification.
  • Professional registration with SACNASP will be an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Basic relevant experience will be an added advantage.
