Our client is seeking a highly analytical and experienced Senior Geologist to join their exploration and production team based in Pretoria. This role is critical for identifying and evaluating potential hydrocarbon resources, interpreting complex geological data, and contributing to strategic exploration planning. You will work closely with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to build subsurface models and support drilling campaign decisions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of regional geology and depositional environments relevant to the oil and gas industry , driving successful exploration outcomes in a collaborative research-oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret seismic, well log, and core data to build detailed 3D geological models.
- Identify and evaluate potential oil and gas prospects and leads.
- Develop geological concepts and hypotheses to explain subsurface features and hydrocarbon occurrences.
- Collaborate with geophysicists to integrate seismic interpretation with geological models.
- Prepare geological reports, maps, and presentations for internal reviews and external stakeholders.
- Provide geological support for drilling operations, including well site supervision and data acquisition planning.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology or a related earth science discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in exploration geology, preferably within the oil and gas sector.
- Proficiency with geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, Move, Geo Modeller).
- Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to synthesize large datasets.
