1.Position Overview
Our Client is seeking a qualified Solar Electrician to join its project deployment team. The successful candidate will support the installation, commissioning, testing, fault-finding and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV), inverter, battery storage and associated electrical systems. The role is based in Pretoria East but requires regular travel to project sites throughout South Africa, including overnight stays where required.
2.Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, test and commission solar PV and backup power systems in accordance with approved designs, specifications and applicable electrical standards.
- Install and configure Victron Energy equipment, including inverters/chargers, battery systems, monitoring equipment and related components.
- Carry out AC and DC electrical work associated with solar and backup power installations.
- Install and terminate distribution boards, isolators, breakers, cabling, earthing and protection equipment as required.
- Perform electrical testing, fault-finding, diagnostics and corrective maintenance on solar and electrical systems.
- Assist with system commissioning, configuration and handover to clients.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, installation layouts and technical documentation.
- Ensure installations are neat, safe, compliant and completed to the required quality standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment and company property in good working condition.
- Follow site-specific health and safety requirements and company procedures at all times.
- Work effectively as part of deployment teams normally consisting of 3 to 6 members.
- Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, clients and other contractors on site.
- Travel to project sites country-wide and stay away from home when project schedules require it.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Electrician with a recognised electrical trade qualification.
- Approximately 2 years' relevant post-qualification or practical electrical/solar installation experience.
- Practical experience installing and working with Victron Energy systems is required.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Own reliable transport.
- Must be able to speak and understand Afrikaans sufficiently to communicate effectively with the team and on project sites.
- Must be willing and able to travel country-wide and stay overnight for projects.
- Ability to work safely and productively in a hands-on site environment.
- Wireman's Licence / Registration as an Installation Electrician, where applicable.
- Experience and authorisation to issue or support Electrical Certificates of Compliance (CoCs), where applicable.
- Additional solar PV, battery storage, inverter or renewable-energy training/certification.
- Experience with lithium battery systems, monitoring platforms and hybrid/off-grid installations.
- Experience in commercial and/or residential solar installations.
- Strong team-player mentality and willingness to contribute wherever required on site.
- Reliable, punctual and able to take responsibility for assigned work.
- Practical problem-solving and fault-finding ability.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Safety-conscious and disciplined in following procedures.
- Able to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
- Professional and respectful when dealing with colleagues and clients.
- Flexible regarding working locations, travel schedules and overnight project requirements.
- The position is based in Pretoria East, with deployment to project sites throughout South Africa.
- Travel and overnight stays form an inherent part of the role and may vary according to the project schedule.
- The role involves practical site work and may include working outdoors, working at heights and handling electrical and solar installation equipment, subject to appropriate training, safety procedures and PPE.
- Project requirements may occasionally require flexibility regarding normal working hours.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on qualified electrician who already has practical exposure to solar and Victron Energy installations, enjoys working as part of a close-knit deployment team, and is comfortable travelling to projects across the country. The individual should take pride in neat, compliant workmanship and be dependable in a project-driven environment.
