Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Workshop Manager to lead our Pretoria workshop. The successful candidate will manage workshop operations, oversee staff, and ensure that truck maintenance, repairs and mechanical breakdowns are handled efficiently.

This role requires strong diesel mechanical expertise, proven managerial experience, and sound knowledge of Mercedes-Benz trucks and the Mercedes-Benz Star Diagnostics Computer System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily workshop operations, allocating work and monitoring the quality and completion of repairs.

  • Lead, supervise and develop workshop staff, ensuring accountability and productivity.

  • Oversee and mentor Workshop Foremen at other branches.

  • Oversee and assist with fault diagnosis, maintenance and repairs on Mercedes-Benz trucks.

  • Use the Mercedes-Benz Star Diagnostics Computer System to identify and troubleshoot faults.

  • Oversee and undertake bodywork and welding repairs as required.

  • Coordinate responses to mechanical breakdowns and provide technical support.

  • Manage workshop costs, stock, tools and equipment, maintaining accurate supporting documentation.

  • Oversee job card control, licence administration and other workshop administrative duties.

  • Work overtime when required to meet operational needs and attend to breakdowns.

Minimum Requirements
  • A recognised Diesel Mechanic qualification.

  • A minimum of 8--10 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Previous managerial experience, including the supervision of workshop staff.

  • Knowledge and practical experience working on Mercedes-Benz trucks.

  • Ability to operate the Mercedes-Benz Star Diagnostics Computer System.

  • Bodywork and welding skills.

  • A valid South African Code EC driver's licence.

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage costs, stock, equipment and workshop documentation.

  • Willingness to work overtime and respond to mechanical breakdowns.

  • Own tools would be advantageous.
