Sheriff's Office Merit Roster

CARBON COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF'S MERIT COMMISSION NOTICE OF EXAMINATION

The Carbon County Deputy Sheriff's Merit Commission will be compiling a roster from which qualified individuals may be selected when openings for Carbon County Deputy Sheriff's occur. Utah law requires the Commission to administer competitive examinations to determine the qualifications of applicants for positions as Deputy Sheriff's. The examination will be designed to fairly test the mental and physical ability and knowledge of the applicants in regards to this position.

Applicants who qualify to take the examinations must score at least 70% on the written aptitude test. Unless currently certified, applicants will also be required to pass a pre-POST physical fitness test. Both examinations will be conducted by the Carbon County Sheriff's Merit Commission. Applicants who successfully complete the examination process will then be further interviewed personally by the Merit Commission.

Applicants for the examination process must be a minimum of 19 years of age for Corrections and 21 years of age for Road and a citizen of the United States. Applicants will be disqualified if they have been convicted, as defined under Utah law, of (a) any felony; (b) any Class A Misdemeanor; (c) domestic violence; (d) Class B Misdemeanor DUI within the last five years;

or (e) any criminal offense inimical to the public service, or involving moral turpitude.

Selected applicants must reside in Carbon County or relocate within one (1) year from date of hire.

Starting Wage: $26.49 /hr, increasing to $28.77 /hr after a one-year probationary period (additional credit for years of service may be applied based on experience and qualifications)
