Manager, Power Distribution; Substation

Overview

• Participate in activities related to the planning, design, construction, maintenance, switching, and control of the electrical distribution and transmission systems.
• Analyze market and competition to understand the organization’s strengths and weaknesses and identify external threats and opportunities.
• Adapt strategy to changing conditions, overcoming resistance, and supporting those affected by change.
• Implement strategic business objectives and plans that support the company’s goals.
• Manage and allocate financial and employee resources and maintain the departmental budget.
• Promote safety through demonstrated leadership and deliver a zero‑accident workplace message.
• Respond to after‑hour emergencies related to the electrical system, covering both distribution and transmission activities.
• Manage schedules and complete the annual substation maintenance plan and capital work.
• Perform inspections and field audits of substation maintenance and capital work.
• Interview, hire, train, coach, and develop employees.
• Identify and implement more efficient ways to perform the job.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the electric utility or related industry.
• Completion of the Assistant Manager training program or equivalent directly related electrical/utility experience.
• Previous supervisory experience or completion of the Assistant Manager training program.
• Demonstrated management, administrative, supervisory, and leadership skills.
• Availability to respond to after‑hour emergencies on short notice on any day and at any time.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and influence employees.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and mainframe applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must live within the assigned work area as agreed upon by the hiring director to support daily and after‑hours operational issues.
• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately in all communications.
• Travel may be required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

• Minimum of five years experience in distribution operations, maintenance, and construction.
• Thorough knowledge of labor agreements, accident prevention manuals, code requirements, personnel procedures, budgeting, and general company policies.
• Knowledge of electrical system construction, operation, and maintenance practices.
