, offered in partnership with Utah State University Eastern (USU Eastern).

This unique program combines the best aspects of an internship and an apprenticeship
, allowing participants to gain hands‑on industry experience while earning college credit—all with no prior experience required.

Participants will choose one of two career paths:

  • Electrical Technicians
  • Fabricators (Welding & Fabrication)

Whether you are looking to explore a skilled trade or begin a long‑term career, this program provides real‑world experience, professional mentorship, and a direct pathway into one of Utah’s fastest‑growing industries.

Job Description

As a Pre‑Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced professionals while developing the foundational skills needed for a successful career in manufacturing and skilled trades.

Depending on your selected career path, you will receive hands‑on training in either Electrical or Fabrication while learning industry safety standards, quality expectations, manufacturing processes, and professional workplace skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Learn from experienced mentors in a real manufacturing environment.
  • Perform entry‑level production and fabrication or electrical assembly tasks.
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery after proper training.
  • Follow company safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Participate in on‑the‑job training and classroom instruction.
  • Develop technical, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Maintain professionalism, attendance, and a positive attitude throughout the program.
  • Complete assigned projects and training objectives.
Program Benefits
  • Paid Pre‑Apprenticeship $14-$17 per hour

Typical Work Schedule

Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM (every other Friday off)

Schedules may vary depending on department assignment.

Requirements

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. No prior electrical or fabrication experience is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. (Exceptions made for those 16+ if they have graduated high school early)
  • Must have graduated from high school or possess a GED, or be on track to graduate prior to the program start.
  • Must be accepted into the USU Eastern Pre‑Apprenticeship Program and complete any required enrollment through USU Eastern.
  • Must successfully complete Intermountain Electronics’ pre‑employment hiring process, including a background check and drug screen.
  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to accept coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work, including standing for extended periods, lifting materials, bending, climbing stairs, and working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to following all Intermountain Electronics safety policies and procedures.
