A Juvenile Justice Technician works to change young lives, support families, and keep communities safe in the following environments:

They provide critical support and guidance to at‑risk youth while they transition into adulthood. Together, we help improve the lives and welfare of young people in the care of JJYS.

JJYS works with at‑risk and delinquent youth in a professional team environment to supervise, teach pro‑social skills, and attain positive behavioral outcomes. Assignments may be in a community setting, residential shelter or treatment setting, or a secure youth correctional facility. The work is dynamic, challenging, and rewarding as youth mature and change due to the interventions provided by JJYS team members.

• Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
• Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
• Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
• Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
• Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques
• Within the first 90 days after hire, participate in one week of New Employee Training and one week of verbal and physical de‑escalation training
• Transport youth
• Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety
• Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing

• Wants to be part of a thriving team focused on changing young lives, supporting families, and keeping communities safe
• Available to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends, and holidays

• Candidates 19 years of age or older
• Candidates with a high school diploma or GED
• Candidates that speak multiple languages
• A valid Utah Driver's License

• High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients to de‑escalate hostile or volatile situations
• Work requires physical exertion and the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) on a recurring basis or for long periods of time
