About the Role

Sask Energy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Operations Technician performs a variety of duties associated with the installation, operation and advanced maintenance of gas system facilities including the delivery of customer services in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices. As a potential first responder, this includes implementing sound decisions in emergency situations.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, trouble shooting, operation and repair of gas system facilities and associated equipment.
  • Monitor and trouble shoot odorant and cathodic protection systems, analyze and maintain associated records.
  • Locate, inspect, install and maintain gas distribution systems involving planned work and emergency response.
  • Participate in Mitigation planning.
  • Assess, plan and organize work which may involve arranging Gas Construction Crews and additional resources, delegating work assignments and ensuring work is carried out effectively and taking action for non-compliance.
  • Inspect the work of contractors/excavators to ensure the integrity of Corporate facilities and compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Read and interpret facility maps and drawings as required for work assignments and as needed provide information for updating.
  • Inspect and perform maintenance duties on Corporate facilities, offices, sites, vehicles and equipment.
  • Install gas lines, involving a variety of work such as staking, operating power mobile equipment, laying pipe, etc.
  • Perform administrative duties including ordering supplies, preparing, updating and maintaining accurate Corporate and/or Area programs, records, manuals, systems and files.
  • Oversee the work of other employees/contractors as assigned, this includes taking action if required for non-compliance.
  • Perform bulk odorant transfer, odorant intensity testing, adjustment of odorant injection and absorption equipment, monitoring of odorization records.
  • Perform customer services, including service, activate and re-activate gas appliances and equipment.
  • Resolve customer inquiries, complaints, trouble calls and emergency situations providing or recommending corrective measures.
  • Build, install and remove meters and regulators, perform piping modifications, read meters, locate and repair gas leaks, connect and disconnect services.
  • Gather and record data on service installations and distribution layouts.
  • Prepare applications and coordinate the delivery for service and main extensions, alterations and retirements.
  • Prepare and deliver customer offers for new and/or existing residential, commercial and industrial nature gas applications.
  • Perform leak detection procedures on Corporate and customer gas lines.
  • Promote and maintain good public relations, by promoting the safe and efficient use of natural gas and acting as the Corporation’s representative at public and internal meetings.
  • Support and participate in the development, marketing, promotion and delivery of Corporate and Area initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and on the job training to assigned employees.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and safe work practices and identify and report non-compliance safety situations.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Journeyperson Plumbing Certificate.
  • Gas fitter's license (general or domestic).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Three (3) years' experience in the natural gas industry associated with the installation, operation, and maintenance of gas system facilities.
Additional Information

Depending on location, standby is routinely scheduled or occasional. This job requires extended work hours. Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion. This job requires significant travel time. This job is subject to call-out situations. This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).

Salary and Benefits
  • Hourly Rate Range $39.91 ($6,474.20) - $47.84 ($7,760.60)
