Senior Assayer/Supervisor, Geochemistry at SGS Canada Inc.

Location:

Vanderhoof, BC. Full-time permanent position with 2 weeks in 2 weeks out (days and nights) at the Blackwater Mine Site. Accommodations, meals and shuttle bus provided.

• Coordinate and schedule incoming samples from the mine site; prioritize samples by importance.
• Oversee laboratory production and report results to specific mine departments.
• Manage client relationships and meet client needs on projects; schedule, supervise and monitor the quality of work by SGS onsite personnel.
• Schedule workflow through lab areas to meet client turnaround time (TAT) deadlines.
• Approve and report assay results; act as a mediator between the mine site client and SGS.
• Facilitate meetings with client metallurgists and geologists; participate in weekly SGS meetings via conference calls.
• Create monthly SGS health and safety reports as required by the client site.
• Conduct ongoing performance reviews of SGS employees; schedule and maintain shift schedules for all staff.
• Ensure staff timesheets are submitted to payroll; may conduct job interviews for new laboratory staff.
• Assist with site commissioning and new equipment; ensure consumables and supplies; manage inventory with minimum/maximum levels.
• Monitor and maintain lab QC standards; ensure quality of all data released by crews.
• Perform accident/incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Maintain logs and records; ensure equipment is maintained with preventative maintenance schedules.

• College Diploma/Certificate or University Degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry or a science-related discipline.
• BC Registered Assayer Certification is an asset.
• 5–10 years experience in a Wet/Fire Assay related field.
• 1–3 years of supervisory experience is an asset.
• Strong leadership and experience supervising small technical teams in a minerals-related laboratory.
• Time management, attention to detail; ability to read, understand and follow work instructions; train direct reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage client expectations.
• Ability to work under pressure; extended hours and shift work; travel as required.
• Experience with laboratory instruments, operation and troubleshooting; knowledge of good laboratory and management practices.
• Proven time management and attention to detail.

• Salary: $70,000 to $90,000 per year.
• Benefits: 80% coverage for Health, Dental and Vision; RRSP program eligibility; paid time off.
