Term: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift: Monday-Friday

Salary: $27.00 per hour

    Nature & Scope

    The Youth Around Prince (YAP) program at YMCA BC is a comprehensive initiative designed to support young people between the ages of 12-24. It offers a range of services including housing support, coaching, advocacy, and practical assistance with finding employment and maintaining housing. The program emphasizes individualized support, recognizing the unique circumstances of each participant, and works collaboratively with Foundry Prince George to provide a holistic approach to youth wellness and integration into the community.

    Reporting to YAP’s Program Coordinator, the Housing Support and Outreach Worker provides a wide range of emotional and practical support for at risk youth attending YAP’s drop-in and facilitates access to the wider range of services within the YAP hub as indicated. The Housing Support and Outreach Worker aids YAP’s program coordinator identify, deliver, and measure programs and services that focus on empowering youth to make positive change.

    This position works from a minimal barrier, harm reduction perspective to build relationship and rapport with, and help meet the needs of, at risk youth.

    Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

  • Establish rapport with young people with complex needs
  • Provide hands on support to young people to identify housing needs and goals, secure and/ or maintain housing, and navigate challenges with landlords or roommates
  • Develop relationships with housing providers and landlords focused on helping young people obtain and maintain housing, avoid housing loss
  • Provide outreach and accompaniment focused on improving housing stability
  • Develop and deliver housing readiness and life skills content (such as budgeting)
  • Hold strong personal and professional boundaries and identify/ manage risk safely
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of available resources related to housing
  • Qualification-you bring:

  • Two years of work experience with vulnerable populations
  • Relevant education (social service diploma or degree or comparable)
  • Commitment to low-barrier, non-judgmental, and harm reduction approaches
  • Demonstrated advocacy, communication, educator, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team
  • Computer literacy and administrative skills
  • Minimum class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Physical ability to do the duties required
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
