Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a residential, two-year liberal arts transfer institution dedicated to preparing students for successful transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. Often considered a hidden gem just beyond the Tri-Cities region, RBC is situated on a picturesque rural campus spanning more than 750 acres of wetlands, serene forests, and the state's oldest and largest pecan grove.

RBC invites applications for the position of HVAC Technician. The purpose of this position is to maintain the College's facilities by performing skilled repair and maintenance tasks, as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, to ensure the operational integrity of campus buildings, including HVAC systems. This position also assists with general building maintenance and repairs, including classroom, office, and event setup support.

This position is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and is designated as essential personnel during emergency closings.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, air handling, control, and mechanical systems.

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment malfunctions, replacing components as needed to ensure safe and efficient operation.

• Perform electrical repair and maintenance work while maintaining service records and inventory of repair supplies.

• Perform plumbing repair and maintenance work while maintaining service records and inventory of repair supplies.

• Complete carpentry projects, including metal stud framing, drywall installation, and general repairs.

• Perform painting and surface maintenance tasks as needed.

• Maintain accurate operating, maintenance, and repair logs.

• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, policies, and workplace safety standards.

• Support facility upkeep by performing a variety of skilled maintenance and repair tasks.

• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

• Must be able to work effectively with others.

• Must be available for after-hours emergency response on a rotating on-call basis.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Universal EPA Certification.

• Demonstrated HVAC experience, including the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems.

• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.

• Availability to participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

• Working knowledge of basic electronics and plumbing systems.

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

• Basic computer applications skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and campus stakeholders.

• Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
