Quesnel School District Tradesperson – Plumbing/Gas Fitter
The Quesnel School District is currently seeking applications for a full-time Tradesperson-Plumber/Gas Fitter. Successful applicants would become members of CUPE Local 4990.
General OutlineUnder the direction of the Manager of Operations the Tradesperson-Plumber/Gas Fitter is responsible for all School District plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems. Performs maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks, including renovations and modifications, on plumbing and gas components and systems within District facilities and grounds, including water, fire sprinkling, irrigation, sewage systems and school lab gas equipment. May perform minor elements of other trades.
The Plumber-Gas Fitter works with a high degree of independence on assigned projects and cooperatively with other employees, students and the public.
- Inspect, install and maintain plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems utilizing a variety of hand and power tools and materials;
- Plans projects and materials requirements and develops layouts of new installations and alterations from drawings, sketches and/or specifications;
- Performs all work in accordance with applicable statues, regulations and codes;
- Reports on parts and supplies inventory levels;
- Reports on work in progress and completed projects, including time and materials used.
- Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate;
- Maintains tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable manner, and maintains a clean safe work environment. Applies safe work practices at all times. Reports unsafe conditions;
- Loads and unloads vehicles; transports materials using District vehicles and equipment as required. Cleans checks and confirms operational safety of vehicle;
- Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment;
- Secure inspection certificates;
- Provide liaison with other tradespeople and utility companies.
- Perform other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position.
- High school diploma;
- Red Seal Plumber;
- Valid Grade B Gas ticket (Class A ticket would be an asset);
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license;
- Direct Digital Control (DDC) experience would be an asset;
- Experience with installation and maintenance of commercial plumbing;
- Experience with boiler installation and service;
- Experience in the area of clearing blockages and repairing leaks;
- Hydronic and forced air multi-zone heating systems, both domestic and commercial types;
- Cross connection certificate would be an asset.
- Willingness and ability to learn other tasks as required;
- Excellent human relations skills;
- High degree of initiative;
- Ability to work as a team player;
- Good judgement;
- Proactive and able to work well under pressure;
- Ability to set priorities and juggle multiple tasks concurrently;
- Professional attitude.

The starting hourly rate of pay for this Tradesperson position is $38.61 per hour. All continuing positions receive a competitive benefits package and pension.
