The City of Prince Rupert is currently recruiting for up to two (2) full time Labourer IV’s to join our team in the Public Works Sector of the Operations Department. Reporting to Operations Management, the successful candidate will perform manual labour in all sections of Public Works. Included on the last page of this posting is an appendix of labouring duties.
This position will require the applicant to be able to perform duties in adverse working conditions, have specialized skills and without direct supervision. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all aspects of the water/wastewater infrastructure along with installing and maintain civil infrastructure including concrete, asphalt, and other duties as assigned. This position is attendance sensitive and is required to work overtime and weekend on call as operationally necessary.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Required:
- Dogwood Diploma or GED;
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant experience (within the last 7 years) in the installation and construction of civil infrastructure namely asphalt, concrete and/or utilities. Experience working with relevant Trades (for example: Plumbers, Carpenters, Millwrights, Stonemasons and Pipe fitters) may be considered;
- Familiar with all parts and tools required to perform the work. You will be required to score 70% or better on the test;
- Shall be capable of understanding, reporting verbally and by written report in English and accept and comprehend verbal instructions; and,
- At least one of the five requirements listed below, which all will be required within two years:
Certifications Required (if not current, within 2 years):
- WHMIS Certification;
- Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement Drivers Licence;
- Confined Space Certification;
- Traffic Control Certification will be required; and,
- Emergency First Aid Level 1.
Fitness Requirements:
- Must be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods in all weather condition;
- Physical ability to frequently stand and walk throughout the day and climb in and out of ditches and trenches while attending job sites;
