Corn Sorter — Temporary Harvest Position
Pay: $16/hr (Returnees: $16.50/hr)
Incentives: $50 weekly attendance bonus (must work all scheduled days and full shifts)
Shift Info:
- Harvest starts August 24; training begins August 19 (3-day mandatory safety orientation)
- Early harvest: 6 am — 6 pm
- Peak harvest:
- 6 am — 1 pm (Mon-Sat)
- 1 pm — 8 pm (Mon-Fri & Sunday; second shift receives $0.75/hr shift differential)
- Must be flexible to work all shifts
Job Purpose:
As a Corn Sorter, you ensure only high-quality seed moves forward in the drying process by removing waste or damaged corn from the conveyor line.
Key Duties:
- Sort corn on a moving conveyor, removing discard and defective cobs
- Identify off-type, damaged, or moldy ears and remove contaminant material
- Keep work area and break rooms clean
- Follow all safety policies; wear provided PPE
- Report incidents, hazards, or concerns promptly
Work Environment:
- Climate controlled, loud (ear protection provided)
- Long periods of standing/sitting (stools provided)
- Exposure to corn dust/allergens
Requirements:
- Flexible schedule; excellent attendance required
- Able to sit/stand for long periods and work at a quick pace
- Transportation not provided; must abide by all site safety rules
- Basic English required;
Spanish/French speakers welcome if able to communicate in English
Dress Code:
- Long pants, closed-toe/heel shoes (no steel toe required for sorters)
- Short-sleeve shirts OK; no loose clothing
- Safety eyewear & gloves provided
