This position is part of the Grain Facility Operator in Training Program, which is designed to move operators through a newly created career path with clear steps for advancement in responsibility and pay.
The role focuses on the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars and trucks with grain. It is ideal for a person who enjoys outdoor work and wants a career in a stable, progressive organization.
Responsibilities- Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE for the task being performed.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations.
- Perform rail duties such as prep, unload, load, placement, etc. of rail cars, where applicable.
- Perform duties associated with the weighing of trucks and grading of grain.
- Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
- Perform general clean‑up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other general housekeeping responsibilities.
- Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs, where applicable.
- Perform duties required to maintain grain quality while being stored and/or transferred.
- Depending on facility and location, may be responsible for the following: movement of product to storage, loading of trucks using heavy equipment, loading of rail; operating, running, monitoring, and shutting down a dryer; operating a variety of heavy equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: None required; preferred 1 year of experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide); effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to complete documentation; ability to follow directions and use logical thought; ability to work independently and within a team; ability to use appropriate tools; ability to provide customer service internally and externally.
- Ability to maintain focus on exceptional customer service.
- Balance constantly/continuously; bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat frequently.
- Climb stairs and ladders; work at significant heights.
- Concentrate on tasks without distraction; lift/push/pull 50 lbs. occasionally and continuously as required.
- Use PPE consistently; comply with PFT and fit testing and all FRA and DOT testing where applicable.
- Perform work in confined spaces; walk safely on railcars and barges; operate vibrators and other equipment where required.
- Work extended hours, weekends, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed.
- Work outside in extreme weather conditions; operate in high dust environments around grain and bulk products.
- Understand and communicate verbally and in writing, including over two‑way radio; recognize emergency alarms.
- Travel may be required (5–20%) for off‑site training or work at alternate locations.
