Overview
We are a foster-based animal rescue based out of Central MN. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, and rabbits. We work to place them in new loving homes. We have a facility in Princeton for staff and supplies, but we operate throughout all of central MN.
Most of our fosters are in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.
This group could not survive without our volunteers who spend countless hours saving lives. Many volunteers balance work, families, and other commitments. If you don t hear back right away, we are likely at work and will respond as soon as we can. More information at
Interested in Becoming a Foster?Foster care is the most important part of Ruff Start Rescue. The animals depend on qualified people to join our team. RSR is looking for fosters to open their hearts and homes to animals in need and care for them until they are adopted. A foster s responsibilities include loving, feeding, playing, exercising, and providing social interaction for the foster animal.
You are also required to take the animal to vet appointments and handle medical tasks such as daily medications. It will always involve treating the animal as if it were your own. It’s easy to get started!
The first step is to fill out and submit a foster application at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). After we receive and review your application, a home visit will be scheduled to meet someone from the rescue and discuss questions about fostering an RSR animal. If everything goes well you can begin your new role as an RSR foster.
Foster Requirements- Have all of your pets spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines.
- Be patient. There is no set amount of time a foster pet will be at your home. We do not want to move foster pets between homes unnecessarily. Constant moving can hinder rehabilitation; keep the foster pet until they are adopted.
- Be willing to work with foster pets. Many animals come from shelters or difficult backgrounds. They may need guidance, patience, and consistency to learn to behave in a home.
- Attend at least one Adoption Event per month.
- Keep the foster animal on a leash when outside unless you have a completely fenced yard.
- Ensure daily exercise for foster dogs, including daily walks.
- Be willing to drive the foster pet to vet appointments at one of the clinics we work with.
- Give medications as needed and on time, in the correct doses.
- Send updates on your foster pets to your Placement Coordinator, including likes, dislikes, biographies, and photos.
- Supervise your foster pet at all times. When no one is at home, use a baby gate or crate if necessary for safety.
- You must have your own homeowners or renters liability insurance before fostering with RSR.
- There are always animals that need a loving foster home; we will help determine the best fit for your lifestyle.
