Property Accountant

Description A well-established real estate organization in the Princeton, NJ is seeking a Property Accountant to join its growing finance team. This position will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities Prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records. Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Analyze financial results and provide meaningful insights into property and portfolio performance. Support the annual budgeting process and prepare periodic forecasts, including quarterly reforecasts of Net Operating Income (NOI).

Complete year-end tenant reconciliations and assist with audit schedules and supporting work papers. Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable activities for assigned properties and legal entities. Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and properly documented. Partner with property management, leasing, and operations teams to support business objectives and improve financial performance. Assist with special projects, process improvements, and ad hoc reporting requests.

Requirements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or related industries.

Experience with property management/accounting software Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong familiarity with financial reporting systems. Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative approach to working across departments.
