We are seeking a detail-oriented Inventory Cost Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Princeton, New Jersey, reporting to the Financial Controller.
Position SummaryThis role will support inventory accounting, cost accounting, project/job costing, month-end close, inventory reconciliations, cost analysis, ERP inventory/costing processes, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, hands‑on inventory accounting knowledge, and experience working within an ERP system such as Net Suite. Experience in manufacturing, biotech, pharmaceutical, CDMO, project‑based, or regulated production environments is preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Support month-end and quarter-end close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, manufacturing costs, project/job costs, and related balance sheet accounts
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for inventory, COGS, project costs, accruals, reserves, and other assigned accounts
- Reconcile inventory subledger activity to the general ledger and investigate variances or unusual activity
- Review inventory transactions for proper costing, classification, GL coding, and customer/project coding
- Analyze inventory movements, purchase receipts, production activity, work orders, project materials, scrap, adjustments, and usage variances
- Support costing activities, including standard cost updates, item costing, landed cost, BOM review, work order costing, and project/job cost tracking
- Assist with inventory valuation, excess and obsolete inventory reserves, lower of cost or net realizable value review, and inventory aging analysis
- Support project‑related inventory accounting, including materials issued to projects, project‑specific inventory, cost transfers, project cost allocations, and reconciliation of project cost activity
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams to resolve inventory, costing, and project cost discrepancies
- Prepare monthly inventory, cost accounting, and project cost reporting schedules, variance analyses, and account fluctuation explanations for management review
- Support cycle count and physical inventory processes, including reconciliation of count results and review of inventory adjustments
- Assist with audit preparation, including inventory support, cost schedules, project cost support, reconciliations, and responses to auditor requests
- Support ERP inventory and costing processes, including item setup review, BOM/work order review, inventory transaction testing, cost data validation, and reporting improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory accounting processes, costing accuracy, project cost tracking, ERP workflows, inventory controls, and reporting
- Support ad hoc cost analysis, margin analysis, cost allocation, ERP cleanup initiatives, project profitability analysis, and special projects as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience, with exposure to inventory accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, project/job costing, or related areas
- Strong understanding of month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger accounting
- Experience with inventory reconciliations, COGS analysis, inventory adjustments, cost variance analysis, or project/job cost analysis
