Payroll Accountant

We are looking for a Payroll Accountant to join a team in Princeton, New Jersey on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This position is ideal for a finance specialist who can manage payroll-related accounting with accuracy, maintain reliable records, and support timely financial close activities.

Responsibilities:

• Administer biweekly and monthly payroll activities for employees in multiple locations while ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Examine payroll results in detail, including pay calculations, benefit deductions, tax with holdings, and garnishments, and resolve any inconsistencies.
• Match payroll reports to general ledger activity, research variances, and correct discrepancies to maintain accurate financial records.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments to support monthly accounting operations.
• Reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts each month and maintain supporting schedules for payroll liabilities and related items.
• Record payroll taxes and employer obligations accurately and help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close by supporting compensation expense reporting and related reconciliations.
• Partner with Human Resources and Finance to address payroll questions, improve data accuracy, and provide documentation for audits and reporting needs.
