Editorial Assistant – Princeton University (Princeton, NJ)
Part‑time (60% onsite) position supporting World Politics, a top‑tier international political science journal.
OverviewThe Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) seeks an editorial assistant (EA) to join the editorial offices of World Politics. The EA will manage administrative tasks essential to the journal’s functioning, including manuscript processing, financial reporting, social media content, and website maintenance.
Responsibilities- Log manuscripts submitted via Scholar One and perform clerical tasks, including communication with authors and vetting reviewer conflicts.
- Follow up on overdue reviews and liaise with authors about submission status.
- Maintain and update the World Politics manuscript tracking spreadsheet (Excel) and Scholar One site.
- Maintain SharePoint folders, ensuring all documents are current and accessible.
- Compile reviewer sheets and review packets for original and revised articles; work with the Executive Editor to prepare editorial meeting agendas.
- Develop social media content in partnership with the communications team and expand the journal’s website.
- Assist the Executive Editor on short‑term projects as needed.
- Opportunities for the EA to further develop editorial skills, pending qualifications and interest.
- Essential – At least 13 years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting; strong multitasking, deadline management, and independent work; self‑starter and initiative; keen interest in scholarly publishing.
- Superior attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience developing and executing social media strategies, with analytics proficiency.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, demonstrating good judgment and flexibility.
- Preferred – Background in academic publishing; experience with web‑based content management systems, SharePoint, and Scholar One.
