THE JOAN NICHOLS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: (Howell/Farmingdale Residents)
The Optimist Club of Howell will award two (2) scholarships of $1,000 each to one (1) young man and one (1) young woman who intend to continue their study in music, art, performing arts, or video and production.
The applicant should also demonstrate a commitment to others through community service. These qualities are in keeping with Joan’s generous nature and creative spirit.
Selection CriteriaA candidate for this scholarship must:
- Be a Howell/Farmingdale resident;
- Be a graduating senior in good standing with a “B” average or higher;
- Have applied to or been accepted to a college program leading to a degree in music, art, performing arts, or video and production.
- Have been involved in some form of community service
- Completed “Joan Nichols Memorial Scholarship” application;
- Provide a descriptive statement outlining the chosen field of study, proposed school and reasons for pursuing a career in music or in arts. Limited to one (1) page, written by the student;
- Two (2) letters of recommendation, one which addresses the student’s contributions to the community
Winners will be chosen by the Optimist Club of Howell Scholarship Committee from applications submitted through the student’s Guidance office. Monies will be paid directly to the school or vocational program the student will be attending to be applied directly toward the tuition costs. All decisions of the Scholarship Committee are final.
