They develop fluency with multiplication and division and explore two‑dimensional shapes, estimation, and the use of variables. Regular word problems teach students how to translate between writing and mathematical symbols, and puzzles help students practice strategic thinking.
Honors Math 5:Students master the key topics they’ll need to succeed in AoPS Prealgebra and other middle school math courses. Students complete their study of the arithmetic of fractions, decimals, and negative integers. They are also introduced to topics in geometry, number theory, statistics, and algebra. Thought‑provoking word problems and puzzles reinforce critical problem‑solving skills, mathematical modeling, and deductive reasoning.
Honors Math 7 – Intro to Algebra:Students engage with mathematical expressions from an algebraic and geometric perspective. They solve linear and quadratic equations, represent expressions in the Cartesian plane, and develop a deep understanding of functions. Students are also introduced to the rich field of complex numbers. They tackle challenging word problems and advanced problems from contests such as MATHCOUNTS, AMC 8, and AMC 10.
Honors Math 8 – Intro to Geometry:Students dive into geometry and develop spatial reasoning skills. They learn to dissect geometrical configurations, learn formal proof techniques, and tackle geometry problems on the Cartesian plane.
