Overview
Our products combine innovative technological solutions with capital efficiency to drive our customers’ critical manufacturing processes. We are currently hiring a Process Engineer to support tool process qualification for Veeco Advanced Deposition and Etch Business Unit. The position will be based in Somerset, New Jersey. This is an exciting position. Ideal for a self-motivated individual who likes to solve technical challenges, operate state-of-the-art, complex manufacturing machines in a hands-on manner.
This position will entail completing process qualification assuring each tool achieves all customer performance requirements.
A Process Engineer will need to have excellent data analysis capability, clear communications skills (verbal and written), be excited to work collaboratively with Development, Marketing and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Review tool specific customer acceptance criteria (Factory Acceptance Document)
- Generate and publish tool qualification plan including required tests, expected test durations, and forecasted completion dates.
- Conduct process qualifications of Veeco Deposition and Etch tools according to Veeco/customer process specifications.
- Measurement and analysis of processed material (wafers, substrates)
- Progress and summary reporting to Veeco Management as tool qualification progresses. Generate recovery plans if the target completion date is in jeopardy.
- Escalate issues if unable to achieve process requirements. This includes leading escalation, preparing all relevant data for escalation team using structured problem-solving processes until root cause is identified, resolved and tool is operating as expected.
- Ability to quickly analyze data, present analysis and think through potential root causes and experiments to determine why a tool may not be performing as expected.
- Provide completed test data as requested by customer. Review this with Veeco marketing or directly with customer if requested.
- Participate in and lead test result discussions with customers for onsite customer inspections.
- Assist/Guide technicians in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Marketing, and Final Test teams to meet On Time Delivery (OTD) targets, ensuring that all process qualifications and tool deployments adhere to scheduled timelines and customer expectations.
- Document tool issues for post-mortem analysis. Issue, lost time, issue requires follow-up to permanently resolve. etc.
- Operate and perform calibration & preventative maintenance on Veeco metrology equipment
- Learn and be competent with software programs (tool operation & data analysis) to execute process testing and runs.
- Adhere to all Veeco safety policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
BS in Materials Science or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience in thin film etch and deposition.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in vacuum thin film technology
- Familiarity with thin film characterization techniques such as four-point probe, stress measurements, ellipsometry, depth profilers, XRF, Nanospec, etc.
