Gas Turbine Engineer/Specialist
Corporate level position supporting NRG's fleet of gas turbines across the country. Gas Turbine Engineer will provide on-site support for field inspections, condition assessments and run, repair, replace recommendations. Coordinate repair activities with various repair shops and suppliers. Assist in developing and/or reviewing quality plans in addition to monitoring and auditing supplier quality. Emphasis on communication amongst peers, site management, and leadership team.
Review of equipment histories, applicable service bulletins, and operational history and requirements to develop long range plans for gas turbines. Support our culture for safety, environmental compliance, quality and diversity.
Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs
Evaluates component condition and repair options
Perform site inspections and condition assessments to support maintenance planning and risk assessments
Participates and/or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating units
Communicates with customers regarding condition of equipment and repair work scope
Inspects completed work or work in progress to assure job quality
Performs field inspections and takes field measurements
Coordinates activities with Vendors/Contractors, other divisions and departments
Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them
Performs root cause analysis of system and equipment problems
Develops quality work plans when required
Performs engineering calculations in area of responsibility
Assists in outage planning and economic evaluation of turbine projects as needed
May be required to manage projects in area of expertise
Ensures company resources are used in a cost effective manner
Prepares written reports in assigned area of responsibility
Performs technical duties in area of responsibility
Develops and maintains technical specifications for purchase of replacement parts, vendor repairs and maintenance standards
Identifies and implements new or existing repair technology in area of responsibility
Track service bulletins for gas turbines/generators and assess implementation and compliance strategy
Qualifies vendors and suppliers for parts and services in area of responsibility
Understand and evaluate non-OEM parts, services, and upgrades
Collect and review operating data to identify mechanical and performance issues
Hybrid work environment with office opportunities in either, Houston, Pittsburgh or Princeton along with NRG Plant locations in the Midwest, East and Texas. Normal office environment and/or outside work environment (including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating plants) Requires travel to and from NRG plants or vendor facilities across the country (approx. 25% of the time) Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver's license Requires personal protective safety equipment while in the plants Overtime or non-standard hours may be required Requires operating a personal computer
Minimum Requirements:
Gas Turbine Aero Engineer / Specialist (Texas, Midwest, East locations) Minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and 5 years of experience in aero gas turbine equipment maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting. Or, a minimum of 10 years of experience in aero gas turbine equipment maintenance/repair, operations, and troubleshooting All positions at NRG will require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent Fundamental knowledge of vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipment Fundamental knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of gas turbines and components Fundamental knowledge of control systems for gas turbines Fundamental knowledge of GE LM6000 gas turbines

Effective communication skills with craft personnel, site leadership, as well as management. Ability to take a leadership role meetings and communications around gas turbine issues. Project management skills Knowledge of power plant systems Knowledge of turbine repair processes Ability to prepare written reports and presentations to management
Physical Requirements:
Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.
