Compensation: $200,000–$240,000 base + bonus + equity participation
Property & Casualty Insurance
We are seeking a Controller with hands‑on experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance. Candidates must have exposure to statutory accounting, financial statement mapping, and controls within a P&C environment. This is a highly technical, strategic role for someone who can partner with the CFO to strengthen accounting and controls infrastructure.
Candidates from Big 4 insurance practices are highly preferred. The client may flex on direct carrier experience only if the candidate has a strong technical accounting foundation and demonstrated ability to build or improve controls in a similar environment.
Top PrioritiesBuild and enhance the risk & controls environment (including development of a formal Risk Controls Matrix)
Lead statutory accounting and reporting
Optimize and strengthen the accounts payable and treasury processes
Lead all statutory accounting and reporting for the organization (Property & Casualty focus)
Prepare and review statutory financial statements and related disclosures
Draft technical accounting memos and partner closely with external auditors to support conclusions
Build, formalize, and enhance the company’s accounting controls framework, including mapping processes and developing a comprehensive Risk Controls Matrix
Oversee monthly close, ensuring timely reconciliations and full balance sheet integrity
Own and manage external GAAP and statutory audits
Evaluate, streamline, and optimize the accounts payable function (~100 invoices/month), strengthening controls and cash management
Oversee treasury-related processes and cash movement workflows
Prepare investor and board‑level reporting packages in partnership with the CFO
Support planning and forecasting efforts and collaborate cross‑functionally, including exposure to FP&A initiatives
Ensure the general ledger (Net Suite) is optimized and aligned with reporting requirements
P&C Insurance experience required
CPA strongly preferred
Background in Big 4 Audit within Insurance, or corporate Controller/Assistant Controller/AVP experience within a P&C insurance environment
Deep understanding of statutory accounting (required)
Strong technical accounting skills, including financial statement mapping and memo preparation
Demonstrated experience building or operating within a strong controls environment
Executive presence and ability to interact confidently with auditors, investors, and board members
Experience improving accounting operations and process efficiency (AP/treasury optimization experience preferred)
Net Suite experience preferred but not required
