Job Description

Withum’s National Tax Services Group is a team of tax specialists that ensure tax reporting obligations are met accurately and timely while minimizing or deferring tax payments. The team leverages a deep understanding of international, U.S. federal, state, and local regulations to develop economic tax strategies anywhere. Services include business, individual, state & local tax, R&D tax credit, cost segregation, international and private client services.

• Perform physical site inspections of properties, take detailed notes, sketches or measurements, and photograph components for IRS audit substantiation purposes.
• Analyze construction general ledgers, contractor payment applications, and other cost/financial documentation, reconciling the information to various accounting records.
• Read, interpret, and estimate take‑off quantities from blueprints and other cost information provided by clients.
• Prepare schedules that support findings in accordance with IRS standards.
• Meet client expectations by adhering to pre-established deadlines.

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering (preferred).
• 2+ years of experience in the construction field.
• Working knowledge of IRS code sections, court cases, revenue rulings, and other tax citations related to cost segregation.
• Strong understanding of construction design and processes as well as depreciation, to determine appropriate tax lives for building assets in accordance with IRS standards.
• Knowledge of real estate appraisals and valuations.
• Proficiency with RS Means Cost Estimator, Marshall & Swift, Planswift, or similar blueprint reading/estimating software.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results‑based team environment.
• Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the year to project sites.
• Willingness to train the right professional.

The compensation for this position ranges from $75,000 to $110,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual’s skills, experience and qualifications.
