Works with patients who have impairments, limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. The Physical Therapist role includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis and interventions toward achieving the highest functional outcomes for each patient or client.

• Evaluate patients, gathering data from the patient, the physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family and significant other persons and data sources.
• Develop treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives and treat accordingly.
• Demonstrate competency in the use, care and maintenance of profession specific equipment, observing safety precautions and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to treat and provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload.
• Re‑evaluate and modify treatment plan and goals when appropriate.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
• Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age‑specific needs.
• Provide care as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her practicing location(s). Recognize and communicate when the patient has received optimal benefit from physical therapy.
• Adhere to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
• Ensure complete documentation and accurate billing.
• Provide patient/family education as indicated.
• Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

• Maintain a positive and encouraging treatment environment.
• Demonstrate caring, honesty, and open communication with all patients and coworkers.
• Maintain a professional appearance.
• Participate in Performance Improvement, program development, student supervision, assigned committees, safety, and infection control, as required.
• Demonstrate an awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Practice efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment.
• Instruct and supervise supportive personnel in their duties.

Education/Training Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved program in physical therapy.

Licensure/Certification Maintains current Physical Therapist license in the State of Alabama. Temporary permit acceptable. Maintains current BLS/Health Care Provider certification.
