Position Summary

The Principal Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of innovative software and data platforms supporting Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacometrics within BMS R&D. This role partners closely with computational scientists and IT teams to enable advanced analytics, modeling, simulation, and workflow optimization, leveraging cloud, HPC, AI/ML, and modern data technologies to accelerate drug development and translational science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support deployment and operation of AI/ML models, simulation tools, and dashboards for scientific users.
  • Lead the integration of HPC, cloud, and Kubernetes‑based compute environments; optimize parallelization and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with domain scientists, IT, and stakeholders to translate scientific workflows into robust technical solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, system upgrades, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Manage platform security, validation, and compliance in coordination with IT and cybersecurity teams.
  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable software systems and data platforms for clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics use cases.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to best practices (CI/CD, Agile).
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and optimize performance of deployed systems.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; higher degrees preferred.
  • 7+ years hands‑on experience in software engineering, ideally in life sciences or healthcare domains.
  • Proven track record architecting and delivering production‑grade software and data platforms (preferably supporting scientific research, modeling or analytics).
  • Experience in cross‑functional collaboration within matrixed, stakeholder‑driven environments.
Primary Skills
  • Python (primary) and R programming with API integration in AWS or Google Cloud; familiarity with Markdown languages such as Quarto/Typst.
  • Experience building GenAI applications and agentic workflows, including fine‑tuning and deploying large language models, prompt engineering, and automating complex document generation.
  • Knowledge of AWS, Azure, GCP, HPC, Kubernetes, and parallel/distributed computing.
  • Familiarity with software validation, compliance, and best practices in regulated environments.
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of the software development lifecycle and SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.).
  • Experience with MATLAB, WebAPP, and related scientific tools.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Additional Skills
  • Knowledge of vector databases and graph RAG.
  • Experience with Posit Workbench/RStudio Server, NAS integration, or similar collaborative scientific platforms.
  • Knowledge of QSP, PBPK, PK/PD modeling or pharmaceutical R&D workflows.
  • Experience implementing robust access controls, NFS, ACLs, and enterprise authentication.
  • Agile and Dev Ops methodologies, CI/CD, and automation scripting (e.g., Bash, Ansible, Cloud Formation, Terraform).
Compensation Overview

Cambridge, MA – $165,120 to $200,088
Princeton, NJ – $150,110 to $181,898
Starting compensation is based on experience, location, and role responsibilities. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available.

On‑Site Protocol
