Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Location:
Central NJ (Princeton, Lawrenceville, New Brunswick) & Remote
Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for project deliverables related to strategic initiatives within R&ED Therapeutic Research Centers, Linux/Windows engineering and cloud support. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering solutions as part of larger projects, working in a highly matrixed environment. As part of the Data Management & Platforms team, they will serve as technical specialist for cloud resources used for scientific R&ED.
Additionally, they will help guide the team towards the optimal cloud resource usage and cost savings. The role responsibilities require high level of digital innovation, and demand passion, speed, accountability and creative problem solving. The successful candidate will actively work towards solving business needs identified in the scope below, and will be a contributing resource in the development and maintenance of cloud capabilities for R&ED.
They will collaborate and work closely with other functional teams in IT, business stakeholders and digital innovation teams to ensure the optimal portfolio of applications exists to support the business.
Key Responsibilities
- On-going production operations cloud & on-prem hosted infrastructure and applications
- Support self-service tooling to support R&ED Researchers and Departments
- Ensure adherence to the BMS best practices including (but not limited to) resiliency, availability, security, governance and cloud cost optimization
- Reduce and resolve production incidents by identifying preventive controls and driving proactive efforts
- Monitor cloud resource cost and usage metrics to optimize cloud spend
- Track system uptime and availability
Key Skills
- Hands-on experience with
- Linux, Windows, Server Infrastructure, Cloud, Storage - Hands-on experience with Public Cloud - AWS, Azure, GCP
- Hands-on expertise in troubleshooting cloud environments - finding and fixing critical production issues
- Practical experience with development languages – Python and/or Go
- Fluent with one or more Infrastructure as Code Platforms
- Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible, and/or Chef - Practical knowledge of cloud shared responsibility model and security best practices.
- Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services including:
- EC2/RDS
- Storage (S3, EFS, FSx, EBS, Storage Gateway)
- IAM:
Roles, Control Policies, Organizational Units, etc.
