The program associate is a professional staff member responsible for supporting, developing, implementing and managing programs and projects. The associate will support the Global Ideas for U.S. Solutions team and work closely with the director and team members to assist in program development and management, as well as team strategy and functioning. As a relatively new team in RWJF, the associate will assist in strengthening both operational and programmatic approaches to global learning.
As with staff at all levels of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, program associates are expected to demonstrate a passionate commitment to the Foundation’s mission.
Program Development and Monitoring:
- Gathers, synthesizes, and analyzes background information relevant to team strategy and the development of programs and projects.
- Reviews proposals and participates in site visits.
- Assists team members in program and project development and monitoring, as assigned by the team director.
- Assists team with strategy for network development and tracking
Learning and Dissemination:
- Works with staff and consultants to assess, evaluate, and disseminate results of programs and projects. Works with staff to develop measures of impact for major programs and activities.
- Monitors, tracks, learns from, and reports on team initiatives and programs. Works with staff and consultants to harvest “learnings” from previous and current grantmaking, and to actively disseminate results and “learnings” to other staff, grantees and the field.
- Assists team members and other staff with development of web content as needed.
- Works closely with director and team members to ensure effective coordination of team project and activities.
- Assists team members with related activities, as assigned by the team director.
- Prepares various types of memos and presentations.
- Assists team with administrative and facilitation tasks, as needed.
- Is responsible for actively participating in team activities and improving team functioning, including compliance with team norms and providing support and back-up for team members.
Grantmaking Processes:
- Responsible for understanding, implementing, and following the grantmaking processes and policies of RWJF.
- Represents the Foundation publicly regarding program and team direction, program funding and grantmaking results. Responds to public inquiries about the team and the application process.
Foundation and Field Contributions:
- Develops general background information for team on major literature, field direction and stakeholders.
- Attends outside meetings and conferences for the team, at the discretion of the team director, and prepares trip reports.
- Master's degree or equivalent education and experience in public health or a related health, behavioral or social science field; or Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years related experience and/or training.
- Two (2) years of related work experience in health or health care related field, preferably in the non-profit or government sector; experience with or knowledge of philanthropy desirable. Experience with Global health and development work desirable.
