Position Overview
Postdoctoral Research Associate – AI/machine learning for analytical and forensic chemistry, Princeton University. The Skinnider Lab seeks a researcher to work on computational analysis of chemical and biochemical datasets, with a focus on identifying small molecules from mass spectrometry-based metabolomics data and applying generative AI models. The position is available starting July 2025 and will remain open until an optimal candidate is found.
Responsibilities- Develop and apply computational approaches to chemical datasets, with AI/ML as a major focus.
- Identify small molecules from mass spectrometry data using generative AI models.
- Predict the existence of undiscovered small molecules likely observable by mass spectrometry, especially novel psychoactive substances.
- Validate predictions with experimental collaborators and develop user‑friendly tools for broad use.
- Engage in data preprocessing, curation, model development, and evaluation of noisy or low‑quality datasets.
- Collaborate closely with experimentalists to integrate computational and experimental workflows.
- PhD (or expected) in computational biology, chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, chemical or biological engineering, forensic science, or a related field.
- Experience in at least one of: computational biology/bioinformatics, cheminformatics, analytical chemistry/mass spectrometry/metabolomics, or machine learning/computer science – demonstrated by at least one first‑author publication.
- Strong written communication skills and motivation for independent, motivated work.
- Enthusiasm for data preprocessing, curation, and working with challenging datasets.
Postdoctoral rank: one‑year appointment with possible renewal pending performance and funding. Senior ranks may be offered multi‑year appointments.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $65,000 – $70,000. Full‑time position with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans as described in Princeton University’s benefit program.
