Research Scientist - Liquid Metals MHD

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory has an open position for a research staff scientist onsite  candidate will join a dynamic team of scientists with diverse expertise working to advance understanding and develop the science and technology of liquid metals to be used as plasma‑facing components in fusion reactors. The work involves developing, building and testing several component concepts with keen attention to liquid metal safety;

developing and testing systems to purify liquid metal streams of fuel and impurities; and may include participation in the liquid metal component testing program in the NSTX‑U device at PPPL.

• Conduct research and disseminate results in the form of talks, posters, and refereed journal articles focusing on boundary physics and the effects of liquid metal components.
• Travel domestically and internationally to facilities as required.

• Minimum of 2‑3 years of post‑PhD experience.

• Ph.D. in plasma physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills.
• Experience with experimental fusion plasma‑material boundary physics, magneto hydrodynamics and heat transfer.
• Experience with handling liquid metals, designing and developing liquid metal experimental systems, interpreting material surface science diagnostics, and conducting numerical simulations of liquid metal MHD.
