Overview
Position:
Principal Scientist, Cardiovascular Translational Biomarker. The Immunology and Cardiovascular Thematic Research Center (ICV TRC) at BMS conducts fundamental research delivering therapeutics to patients. The mission is to create transformative medicines of tomorrow based on cutting-edge science and leveraging BMS’s internal invention engine.
- Perform studies to define pharmacodynamic biomarkers of response and disease progression, as a member of a discovery team, and articulate how these biomarkers may translate to the clinic.
- Thorough knowledge of experimental design and a high level of technical laboratory skills (including cell culture of relevant cell lines and primary cells, immunoassays such as ELISA/MSD, IHC, protein signaling, qPCR platforms) with the ability to interpret results.
- Employ technical knowledge to make in-life modifications when necessary.
- Lead studies to completion, including hands-on analysis of samples or directing studies externally through management of CROs.
- Evaluate programs critically and present findings and recommendations to discovery teams and leadership.
- Document, review, modify experimental approaches as needed, and present data in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams by providing timely and actionable study results.
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to develop team members.
- Contribute to and author reports, abstracts, and publications.
- Bachelor’s Degree — 8+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
- Master’s Degree — 6+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
- Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences — 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
- Ph.D. in Physiology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience and 5+ years after completion of terminal degree (PharmD/DVM/MD may be considered; MS with 5+ years relevant industry experience also acceptable).
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology and modern cardiovascular methodologies used pre-clinically and clinically, including imaging biomarkers (ultrasound-echocardiography, MRI, PET).
- Understanding of animal research considerations with 3
Rs principles; hands-on experience handling rodents. - Experience culturing and measuring biochemical/functional parameters in iPSC-CM, primary cardiac cells, and/or engineered heart tissues.
- Excellent laboratory skills and ability to manage external collaborators with clear timelines and expectations.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work in a multidisciplinary, matrixed team environment.
