Overview
The Princeton University Department of Chemistry seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher for an appointment in Prof. Herschel Rabitz's laboratory. The successful candidate will adapt a dual-frequency comb laser for use in conjunction with a unique tip‑enhanced spectroscopy instrument, currently under development in Prof. Rabitz’s lab, to produce the world's first nanoscale dual‑frequency comb laser spectrometer.
This instrument will enable the spectroscopic characterization of nanoscale volumes in frozen cell sections, providing unprecedented maps of the distributions of small molecules within the cell. The development of this instrument will address unsolved problems in biology and has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of metabolism and signaling in healthy and diseased cells.
Responsibilities- Adapt the dual‑frequency comb laser setup to work with the tip‑enhanced spectroscopy instrument.
- Develop and operate the tip‑enhanced dual‑comb spectroscopy system to identify cellular chemical species.
- Acquire, process, and interpret spectroscopic data from nanoscale samples.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in physics, chemistry, and molecular biology.
- Publish research findings and present results at scientific meetings.
- Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or related field.
- Experience with dual‑comb spectroscopy and signal acquisition/processing.
- Ability to work independently within a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
