The ETS Research Institute invites applications for a Senior Research Scientist position to contribute to a research agenda focused on effective human-AI collaboration in education and work.

We seek scholars whose research advances understanding of the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and practices that enable individuals and teams to work effectively with AI systems in learning, problem-solving, decision-making, and workplace settings. Particular areas of interest include identifying, measuring, and advancing the human capabilities required for successful human-AI collaboration, including task delegation, prompt generation, critical evaluation of AI outputs, human oversight, judgment and decision-making, problem formulation, adaptability, communication, domain expertise, ethical reasoning, and metacognitive skills.

We are especially interested in research that examines how these capabilities can be developed and assessed across K-12, postsecondary, and workforce contexts, and how human-AI collaboration influences learning, productivity, performance, and opportunity, and the integration of human and AI capabilities to enhance learning, performance, decision quality, and productivity. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team developing research frameworks, assessments, and evidence-based insights that clarify how human capabilities and AI systems can work together effectively as education and work continue to evolve.
