Job Description & How to Apply Below

Position Summary

We are seeking a translational scientist with a background in cardiovascular biology to identify and discover novel and existing biomarkers to support the progression of late‑discovery programs to early‑phase clinical trials and beyond. The role involves close collaboration with the development organization and may act as a liaison between discovery and development. The successful candidate will collaborate with early discovery team members to drive progression of programs, assist in pharmacology studies, and guide the selection and analysis of endpoints.

They will apply knowledge of cardiovascular biology to establish pharmacodynamic endpoints consistent with mechanism of action, including in vivo, functional‑structural analyses, and ex vivo or in vitro biochemical or molecular assays, and may develop novel assays. The position primarily requires on‑site, lab‑based work, although lab time may vary with programmatic needs.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform studies to define pharmacodynamic biomarkers of response and disease progression.
  • Possess thorough experimental design knowledge and high‑level technical laboratory skills, including cell culture of relevant cell lines and primary cells, immunoassays (ELISA/MSD, IHC), protein signaling, and qPCR technology platforms.
  • Employ technical knowledge to make experimental in‑life modifications when necessary.
  • Lead studies to completion, including hands‑on analysis of samples internally or directing external CRO studies.
  • Evaluate programs critically and present findings and recommendations to discovery teams and leadership.
  • Document, review, and modify experimental approaches as needed, presenting data in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, providing timely and actionable study results.
  • Provide hands‑on training and guidance to develop team members.
  • Contribute to and author reports, abstracts, and publications.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
  • Master’s Degree with 6+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physiology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant industry experience and 5+ years after completion of terminal degree, including post‑doctoral training. PharmD/DVM/MD may be considered if the candidate has a strong track record in basic sciences or drug discovery from hands‑on contributions. Alternatively, an M.S. in a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology and modern cardiovascular methodologies employed pre‑clinically and clinically.
  • Strong understanding of imaging biomarkers used in the clinic such as ultrasound‑echocardiography, MRI, and PET.
  • Understanding of animal research considerations, with species‑specific focus, and the ability to apply 3

    Rs principles in experimental design.
  • Hands‑on experience handling rodents.
  • Expertise in culturing and measuring biochemical or functional parameters in iPSC‑CM, primary cardiac cells, and/or engineered heart tissues.
  • Excellent laboratory skills, prioritizing accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Skill in managing external collaborators and setting clear timelines and expectations.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, matrixed team environment.
