Part Time On Call; PTOC Security Force Lieutenant

Overview

The Institute of Defense Analyses (IDA) has an immediate career opening for a part‑time on‑call Security Officer (Monday & Friday 4:00 p.m. to midnight as a minimum) in our Center for Communications Research located in Princeton, New Jersey (CCRP). Our primary sponsor is the Department of Defense and the classified work that is done at IDA must be kept secure. Security Officers are the first line of defense against leaks of classified information and for maintaining a safe and orderly work environment for our employees.

• Establish familiarity with all normal and emergency procedures, duty posts, and the physical layout of the facility and grounds.
• Maintain proficiency in operating intrusion detection, video surveillance, personnel access control (red badge warning/intercom systems), and fire/safety systems; report any system malfunctions.
• Learn and adapt to all existing and future security‑enhancing system add‑ons, changes, and upgrades.
• Regulate personnel entry into building and adjacent areas; check identification badges; ensure visitors have authorized entry; secure proper identification; maintain visitor log.
• Protect and properly control sensitive material (documents, printouts, and media) during security checks.
• Record all security‑related occurrences accurately and timely, maintaining logs, reports, and required paperwork throughout the shift.
• Escort uncleared personnel and perform safety/security tours in and around the CCR‑P complex.
• May perform duties of receptionist/switchboard operator, including answering phones, logging calls, and operating the postal meter/scale system.
• Perform other duties as assigned, which may include tasks outside the normal scope of security.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two or more years of experience in a security‑related environment (preferably within a defense organization).
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience using computers and associated software, and familiarity with security‑related equipment.
• Able to obtain and maintain a required security clearance (TS/SI).
• Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

We support transparency, equity and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data‑driven market analysis for each position. The range for this role is $42,000–$67,000. Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, unique skills and qualifications and other relevant factors.

U.S. citizenship is required.

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
