Job Description

Job Title: Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Physical Education Teachers:
    Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Knowledge of core academic subject assigned;
    Knowledge of curriculum and instruction;
    Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior;
    Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience:

    Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation; provide accommodations for differences among individual students as required.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology aligned to learning styles and needs; present subject matter according to TEA guidelines, board policies, and admin regulations.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the school district’s mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by district/campus administration.
