Essential Functions of Position

Responsibilities
- Develop curriculum and assist in the coordination of the program for metals fabrication/welding technology.
- Instruct courses: oxygen-acetylene and plasma cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding
GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and manual and semi-automatic equipment in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. - Attend and pass the NC3 training and utilize the program in welding courses so students have the opportunity to attain NC3 certifications.
- Share in the responsibility of proper maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and supplies used in the welding program.
- Assist with developing and teaching short term courses, such as summer workshops for students and high school instructors.
- Participate in recruiting activities.
- Participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed.
- Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Related work and professional experience.
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students.
- Knowledge of and acceptance of becoming certified in the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) Lincoln Electric LEEPS Program.
- Skills equivalent to a certified welder in the following areas: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Hold at least one AWS, API 1104, and/or an ASME Section IX certification.
- Hold a CWI (Certified Welding Inspectors) credential.
- Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Expected to learn and utilize the District’s learning management system for classes as well as grading and attendance.
- Knowledge and experience with the welding certification program.
