Position Information
Posted Range: $29.96/hour
This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.

Primary RoleThe Utility Worker position exists to perform a variety of tasks to ensure efficient and reliable operation, maintenance, protection and appearance of all pipelines; services hydrants, valves and other appurtenances.
Key Accountabilities- Perform all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of fellow employees and the general public.
- Erect barricades and place safety lights around work sites to protect workers from street traffic; may flag traffic as required.
- Ensure sites are secure before leaving; interpret system maps and field locate water company assets, remove and install water meters.
- Inspects, disassembles, and repairs damaged or malfunctioning control devices of water distribution systems, using hand and/or power tools.
- Break up pavement, using air hammer or other tools; manually dig ditches in preparation of laying or removing pipe or service lines; maneuver pipe sections, valves and fittings into position.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver equipment and materials of varying weights up to 100 lbs.
- Backfills excavations using compaction equipment on dirt, crusted stone and cold-mix; may operate small backhoe.
- Reads meters and ensure readings are properly recorded.
- Inspect meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect leaks or malfunctioning.
- Tighten pipe connections to prevent leaks using wrenches and other hand tools as required.
- Use technology to prepare requisitions and/or reports to appropriately maintain service records.
- May be assigned to perform responsibilities either individually or in conjunction with other employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must have basic geographical knowledge of company's service area and must be adaptable to variations in topography and weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of company policies, procedures and safety practices as well as regulations regarding confined spaces.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Possess the ability to operate company equipment and vehicles necessary for completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Must possess 5 years of experience as a Utility Worker.
