WHO WE AREWe build the infrastructure that powers modern energy. R-2 Contractors works exclusively on power projects, including substations, transmission, distribution, and generation. Our capabilities include grading, excavation, foundations, trenching, conduit installation, and grounding.
We're a growing company with strong people and solid work, and we're continuously improving how we operate.
Our Core Values Are Simple:
- Pride - You care about the quality of your work.
- Grit - You keep digging, asking questions, and working through uncertainty.
- Own It! - You take responsibility for your estimates and help solve problems before they grow.
- We also value people who are Hungry, Humble, and Smart - people who get results, keep their ego in check, and work well with others.
If you want a role with narrow responsibility and constant instruction, this will not be the right fit. If you enjoy taking initiative, solving problems, and helping build something better, keep reading.
THE ROLEWe are hiring an Estimator who can build accurate, thoughtful, and complete estimates that set projects up for success before they ever break ground.
This role goes beyond putting numbers on a page. You will be expected to think critically, identify risk, stay detail-oriented, and develop clear, dependable estimates in a fast-moving environment.
You will work across teams to align scope, assumptions, and priorities while helping strengthen how we estimate, communicate, and manage a demanding bid workload.
Some bids will be straightforward, but many will not. Success in this role requires flexibility, sound judgment under pressure, and the ability to keep moving forward when timelines are tight.
You will do well here if you:
- Stay ahead of problems instead of reacting to them
- Ask questions early and often
- Take ownership of outcomes
- Work within our current structure and help improve it over time
- Bring suggestions and solutions, not just criticism
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Build complete estimates for civil, foundation, and underground scopes on power infrastructure projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs for grading, excavation, concrete, trenching, conduit, and grounding work
- Work with vendors and subcontractors to develop accurate pricing
- Identify gaps, risks, and assumptions before bids are submitted
- Help improve estimating tools, processes, and project handoffs as the company grows
- Ownership mindset - you stand behind your work
- Curiosity - you want to understand how the work is built
- Initiative - you do not wait to be told what to do
- Adaptability - you are willing to adjust how you think
- Strong communication - you work well across teams
- Humility - confident but open to better ways
- Problem-solving mindset - you help move things forward
- 2+ years in construction, estimating, or a related field (flexible for the right person)
- Civil, utility, or power industry experience is a strong plus
- Ability to read plans and think through construction sequencing
- A degree is valued but not required; we care about sound judgment, attention to detail, adaptability, and approach to the work
- You caught something others missed before it became a problem
- You understand how work gets built, not just how it gets priced
- You improved a process instead of only working within one
- Work on meaningful infrastructure projects in the energy sector
- Be part of a team that values initiative and accountability
- Have a direct impact on the work we win and execute
- Join a company that is growing and improving every day
$80,000 - $160,000 annually, based on demonstrated ability and overall fit for the role.
At the lower end of the range, you may still be building your estimating experience. At the higher end, you can manage a demanding bid workload, think critically under tight deadlines, and consistently produce thorough, reliable work.
