Senior Naval Science Instructor
Location: Crook County High School
DAYS: 12‑month annual position
Start Date: July 1, 2026
Salary: Salary and benefits in accordance with the memorandum of agreement between the Department of Navy and Crook County School District
JOB SUMMARYThe Instructor motivates, assists, and guides students in their prescribed instruction, discipline, safety, and health while under school supervision. The Instructor leads each student toward intellectual growth, citizenship, self‑reliance, leadership, and overall development, providing appropriate instruction throughout the school year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Certified by the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC)
- Meets Navy standards and certified as a Senior Naval Science Instructor
- Ability to obtain an Oregon teaching license
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Demonstrated professional and personal characteristics for working with students, parents, staff, and the community
- Ability to travel to multiple work locations if assigned to an itinerant position
- Identifies and procures needed resources and materials through the U.S. Navy supply system
- Prepares required reports and monitors student behavior, including in outdoor and gymnasium areas
- Possesses high moral standards and integrity
- Maintain appropriate licenses and required training hours
- Comply with district, state, local, and federal laws and regulations
- Adhere to Teachers Standards and Practices Commission guidelines for competent and ethical educators
- Develop and implement the Master Training Schedule
- Supervise accountability, maintenance, and use of government‑issued equipment and materials
- Conduct Leadership Education Training
- Direct cadet activities (e.g., Color Guard, Drill team, Leadership camp, Marksmanship team, Orientation trips, Social functions, Awards/Honor program)
- Prepare program for biennial formal inspections
- Attend work regularly
- Use state and district curriculum and goals; set instructional objectives and outcomes
- Select and adapt lesson plans for diverse learners and cultural contexts
- Use appropriate teaching techniques and materials to achieve learning objectives
- Select and use assessments, analyze data, and adjust instruction accordingly
- Document teaching effectiveness through samples of student work
- Supervise instructional assistants, train them, and evaluate their performance
- Maintain records of student progress, behavior, and safety
- Respond to and report incidents (e.g., safety hazards, suspicious activity)
- Serve on building, district, and school committees as required
- Interpersonal: inclusive teamwork, conflict resolution, confidentiality, positive team spirit
- Language: fluent verbal and written English, ability to draft reports and correspondence
- Mathematical: basic arithmetic, money and measurement conversion
- Reasoning: apply common‑sense understanding to instructions and problem‑solving
- Computer: proficiency in database, email, word processing, and spreadsheets (e.g., MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Other: communication with students, staff, parents, vendors, law enforcement; judgment in interruptive environments
- Certifications:
valid Oregon Teaching License, Oregon Driver License, CPR/First Aid card (as required)
- Regularly stand, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs; lift up to 15 lb regularly and up to 50 lb occasionally
- Frequent verbal & auditory tasks; hand use for fine manipulation, keyboarding, and console operation
- Required close‑vision skills for reading and screen use
- Environment includes office and school setting with moderate‑high noise variability; occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens
