SALARY: $68,433 to $94,383; dependent upon education and experience

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid drivers license and have reliable, insured transportation for required travel between schools. Must adhere to federal requirements of a drug-free workplace.

Education/Work Experience/Certificates/Licenses

  • MA or MS Degree.
  • Must be eligible for Oregon Teaching License with a Speech Impaired Endorsement or Oregon Board of Examiners Speech Pathology License.
  • Eligibility for American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.
  • Experience with itinerant public school service.
Desired Qualities

  • Current CPR Training preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for, working with children.
  • Demonstrated patience, warmth, and capacity for acceptance of children with special needs.

Job Description

Job Title: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Work Days: 190

Reports To: Building Principal, Director of Special Services

FLSA Status: Exempt

Description Of The Position

The Speech and Language Pathologist shall motivate, assist and be directly involved in the diagnosis and remediation of children with speech and language disorders, including their prescribed instruction, discipline, safety and health while under the supervision of the school. She/he will support each student toward the fulfillment of his/her potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation by providing appropriate instruction to each student.

Reports to Building Principal. However, operations of the program will be maintained at a standard acceptable to the Director of Special Services.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct student assessments, including screening and diagnostic evaluations in speech and language as appropriate. Maintain the dignity of each individual student, regardless of their disabilities.
  • Receive and process referrals as outlined in the department Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Serve as case manager for those students assigned, arranging for and holding, planning and review conferences with appropriate persons.
  • Prepare Individual Education Plans (IEP) for each student assigned, with support from appropriate persons, and distribute copies according to department procedures. Evaluate performance in meeting IEP goals and objectives.
  • Provide direct/indirect services in speech, hearing and/or language in accordance with the IEP.
  • Conference with parents and staff regarding student progress.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, or local organizations in regard to services available when possible.
  • Complete all required reports and records as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
  • Provide in-service activities in speech and/or language when requested by the principal, department director, or local staff.
  • Serve as a member of local Assessment Team as needed.
  • Plan activities and instructional programs, which meet the individual needs of students, considering each one's cultural, behavioral, motivational, ability differences, and expect the highest level of achievement possible for each student. Meet on a regular basis with each of the student's teachers and provide assistance as needed.
  • Set appropriate instructional goals and document their attainment through progress data and performance assessment.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information and keep records as required by law, policy and regulations.
  • Create a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment and maintain control of students in educational settings.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward the District by actions and communications with students, other staff, the administration, and the public.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff, parents, supervisor and public.
  • Accept constructive suggestions, assume the responsibility for seeking help and advice, and take full responsibility for demonstrating improvement.
  • Cooperate with other staff and administration in the development, coordination, selection and evaluation of instructional programs and materials.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to the curriculum, policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the position and the legal rights of students and parents.
