Lumber Yard Associate
Pay: $18.47–$22.41 an hour.
This position reports to the General Manager, Assistant Manager, and Location Supervisor, and works closely with both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities- Safely, accurately, and efficiently load customer vehicles with orders of building materials.
- Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy.
- Receive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and depositing inventory in designated locations.
- Inspect stock and returned items to ensure salable quality.
- Put stock away in the correct location and neatly.
- Provide required paperwork for change orders.
- Complete inventory adjustments.
- Participate in inventory preparation and post procedures.
- Read and follow instructions on picking tickets.
- Open and close warehouse and yard when necessary.
- Complete Blue‑Volt training as required.
- Attend product knowledge meetings and stay current with product applications.
- Know product locations in the yard and warehouse and read measuring tape.
- Maintain forklift cleanliness and overall yard cleanliness.
- Adhere to company procedures, policies and protocols as set forth in the Employees Handbook.
- Wear high‑visibility safety gear and proper uniform.
- Perform daily lift inspections.
- Always look behind/honk horn when backing/rounding blind corners.
- Safely operate equipment.
- Report all accidents/incidents and damaged products promptly.
- Perform daily safety audits of forklift and report malfunctioning equipment.
- Keep aisles and exits clear.
- Attach red safety flag to over‑length product.
- Participate on safety committee if needed.
- Consistently follow safety protocols.
- Greet and assist all customers, share product knowledge, and pull orders for will calls.
- OSHA Certified forklift License preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices, and protocols.
- Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials.
- Ability to read and interpret picking tickets and invoices.
- Ability to concentrate and attend to detail in a busy work environment.
- General knowledge and use of power tools.
- Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stoop, bend, and walk.
