Lumber Yard Associate

Pay: $18.47–$22.41 an hour.

This position reports to the General Manager, Assistant Manager, and Location Supervisor, and works closely with both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
  • Safely, accurately, and efficiently load customer vehicles with orders of building materials.
  • Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy.
  • Receive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and depositing inventory in designated locations.
  • Inspect stock and returned items to ensure salable quality.
  • Put stock away in the correct location and neatly.
  • Provide required paperwork for change orders.
  • Complete inventory adjustments.
  • Participate in inventory preparation and post procedures.
  • Read and follow instructions on picking tickets.
  • Open and close warehouse and yard when necessary.
  • Complete Blue‑Volt training as required.
  • Attend product knowledge meetings and stay current with product applications.
  • Know product locations in the yard and warehouse and read measuring tape.
  • Maintain forklift cleanliness and overall yard cleanliness.
  • Adhere to company procedures, policies and protocols as set forth in the Employees Handbook.
  • Wear high‑visibility safety gear and proper uniform.
  • Perform daily lift inspections.
  • Always look behind/honk horn when backing/rounding blind corners.
  • Safely operate equipment.
  • Report all accidents/incidents and damaged products promptly.
  • Perform daily safety audits of forklift and report malfunctioning equipment.
  • Keep aisles and exits clear.
  • Attach red safety flag to over‑length product.
  • Participate on safety committee if needed.
  • Consistently follow safety protocols.
  • Greet and assist all customers, share product knowledge, and pull orders for will calls.
Qualifications
  • OSHA Certified forklift License preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret picking tickets and invoices.
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail in a busy work environment.
  • General knowledge and use of power tools.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and walk.
