Tuesday through Saturday position.
OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Operations Manager, this position operates all applicable heavy equipment used in the landfill operation. The duties include placing, compacting, and covering waste to proper grades at each of the landfill cells, and preparing, loading, and transporting materials for recycle.
Essential Job Functions- Responsible for compacting and covering solid waste using various heavy machinery.
- Dust abatement with a water truck.
- Grinding wood waste.
- Sorting, loading and hauling recyclable materials.
- Inspect incoming waste loads for prohibited materials.
- Remove prohibited waste discovered in the cells and place in the appropriate areas or return to customer.
- Fill in on any needed positions at the landfill, including equipment operation, scale house attendant, local deliveries of recycle material, and other duties assigned by management.
- Provide courteous interaction and effective communication with landfill customers, regulatory authorities, contract professionals, and vendors.
- Perform duties of a skilled laborer as required.
- Support other members of the landfill team to ensure completion of all tasks in a timely and safe manner.
- Conduct daily equipment checks to ensure proper fluid levels and safe working condition.
- Work safely around public, keeping them the first priority.
- Knows the hazards of the job and is trained in safety precautions. Follows all safety procedures, reports unsafe conditions or incidents to the landfill manager promptly.
- Has general knowledge of and operates all applicable heavy equipment, including landfill compactors, bulldozers, motor graders, hydraulic excavators, backhoes, loaders, forklifts, dump trucks, water trucks, roll‑off trucks, grinders, and scrapers.
- Effective communication skills for courteous interaction with the public and colleagues.
This position has supervisory responsibilities over 0 employees.
Work Environment- Must be flexible in work schedules and hours to maintain proper manpower to complete all functions needed to operate the landfill.
- Employee regularly required to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, lift, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, twist, and bend.
- Position works outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The landfill contains less than sanitary conditions.
Full‑time position. Days and hours:
Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Occasional travel expected.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent required.
- Prefer a minimum of two years heavy equipment operation experience; knowledge and experience to use, maintain, and perform routine repairs of equipment utilized.

- Must obtain Hepatitis B vaccination within the required timeframe for health standards.
- Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver’s license.
- Possess a CDL endorsement and pass medical certification per motor carrier regulations sections 391.41‑391.49.
- Able to complete a thorough employment and/or criminal history check.
- Final candidates may be required to provide official proof of college degree and certified transcripts (not required for all positions).
This position is considered to be a safety sensitive position.
