Rate of Pay: $24,896 - $51,531 per year

Terms of employment per the Prior Lake-Savage Education Association (PLSEA) collective bargaining agreement.

The Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) teacher is committed to equitable access, inclusive practices, communication accessibility, and shared accountability for the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, language, and communication development of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The DHH teacher provides specialized instruction, consultation, and support services to students, staff, and families to ensure students have meaningful access to educational opportunities across school environments.

Functions

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Provides direct and indirect specialized instruction and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing across educational environments, consistent with students' IEPs, communication needs, and access requirements.
  • Assess and supports student development in areas including language, communication, self-advocacy, auditory skill development, social-emotional functioning, and academic achievement.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, interpreters, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support student access to instruction, classroom participation, and implementation of accommodations and modifications.
  • Supports the implementation and effective use of hearing assistive technology and communication access supports, including FM/DM systems, captioning, interpreters, visual supports, and other accommodations as appropriate.
  • Monitors student progress toward IEP goals; collects and analyzes data; and adjusts instructional strategies and supports based on student needs and response to intervention.
  • Serves as case manager for assigned students when appropriate and develops and maintains IEPs, evaluation reports, progress reports, and documentation in compliance with federal and state special education law and district procedures.
  • Facilitates collaborative communication with families regarding student progress, communication development, educational access, transition planning, and support needs.
  • Provides consultation, coaching, and training to district staff regarding hearing loss, communication access, accommodations, assistive technology, and inclusive practices for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Participates in evaluation planning, Child Study Teams, IEP meetings, transition planning, professional learning communities, and district initiatives.
  • Makes sure confidentiality of student information and demonstrates professionalism in conduct, communication, and collaboration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the teachers' collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field required

  • Experience providing direct instruction, consultation, and collaborative support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in school-based settings preferred.
