Qualifications include one of the following:
Associates Degree or higher; 60 college semester credits; "Highly qualified" status through completion of the Para Educator or Para Pro exam.

• Candidates without one of these qualifications will need to pass the Para Educator exam within 30 days of hire.

Provide support to the special education staff with educationally related activities and help students with support in different subject areas: monitor/direct these students and support them in other school settings as needed.

• Support and monitor students in educational settings.
• Provide teacher support; objective observation, data keeping, and preparation and organization of materials.
• Assist in implementing successful student programs as designed by special education staff.
• Assist with personal care needs of individual students, as needed.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity in cultural heritage, lifestyles, and value systems among students and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or supervising teacher, specific to special education.
